How to revive a dead Instagram account
Mar 05, 2025Hello, welcome back to the podcast. Today, I want to talk about Instagram because the majority of my clients are on Instagram. But if you're not on Instagram, I still want you to listen to this — this isn’t about convincing you to start a new platform.
You know how I feel about that. If you’ve followed my content, you’ll know I’m not about worshipping any one platform. You can build your life coaching business on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, or even through in-person networking. It’s not the platform that creates success.
That said, many life coaches do struggle with their relationship with Instagram, so let’s talk about that.
Are You Accidentally Becoming a Content Creator Instead of a Coach?
One of the biggest shifts I help my clients make is getting out of the content creator mindset. You’re not here to become an Instagram influencer. You don’t need to master every nuance of the algorithm.
When your entire business becomes about learning a platform and trying to "crack the code," you’re playing a losing game. You don’t own Instagram. You can’t control Instagram. Your business needs to be bigger than the platform.
The Real Question to Ask Yourself About Instagram
A lot of life coaches come to me with questions like:
- Should I start a new account?
- Should I only do Reels?
- Should I upgrade my branding?
- Should I switch my content strategy?
These are the wrong questions.
The right question is: "How can I build more genuine relationships and connections with my potential clients?"
If Your Instagram Feels Dead, Here’s How to Breathe Life Back Into It
If you look at your Instagram and feel like it’s dead — barely a pulse — the way to bring it back to life isn’t through fancier content or better hashtags.
The way to revive it is to breathe life into it yourself.
This isn’t about what you do, it’s about how present you are with your business and your message. Ask yourself:
- Where is my connection to my offer?
- Am I clear on the problem I solve for my clients?
- Am I more focused on my Instagram metrics than I am on my actual potential clients?
It’s Not the Platform, It’s the Energy You Bring
When you’re connected to your offer, your message, and the transformation you provide, your content comes to life. The platform — whether Instagram, TikTok, email, or something else — just becomes the container.
Your job is to breathe life into your content by being fully present with your audience and your message.
Stop Stressing About the Car, Focus on the Road Trip
Think of your business like a road trip. Your content platform (Instagram) is just the vehicle. But no one wants to go on a road trip if the energy in the car is dead. People want to join the person who’s making the journey feel alive and fun.
Are you bringing energy, stories, insights, and presence to your content? Or are you obsessing over whether your Instagram "vehicle" has the right paint job?
Create From a Place of Service, Not Stress
When you create content from a place of connection — thinking about your client’s struggles, your own stories, and what you know to be true — your content has a natural pulse.
This is what shifts your content from dead to alive.
The algorithm, the aesthetics — they become secondary. What matters is the energy you bring when you show up, share your truth, and release your content knowing it’s enough for today.
Final Thoughts for Life Coaches Using Instagram
Focus less on "mastering" Instagram and more on bringing life and aliveness into your content. When you do that, your Instagram (or any platform) will naturally become more engaging, more magnetic, and more effective.
